N-MOSFET

An N-MOSFET is an electronic switch: gate G controls current from D to S. A suitable positive voltage between G and S turns it on. Bringing G back to S turns it off.

Choose a part suited to your control voltage and check its pinout. A resistor between G and S keeps it off when the driver is disconnected.

At SparkVille’s fountain, a MOSFET switches the LEDs in quick pulses. Longer on-pulses make the evening colours look brighter.
