Capacitor

A capacitor stores energy in an electric field between two conducting plates separated by an insulator. It can charge up and release that energy again.

Capacitance is measured in farads (F). A charged capacitor can still hold energy after the supply is disconnected.

In the clock tower’s supply, capacitors help smooth little changes in voltage.
