Battery
A battery turns stored chemical energy into electrical energy. It provides a voltage between its positive and negative terminals. The AA in our picture is one cell. A battery made of several cells can be drawn with repeated long/short plate pairs.
Current needs a complete circuit. Never connect a battery’s terminals straight together — that makes a short circuit.
The travelling lantern carries a battery, so it can shine far from the town’s power lines.
