Light bulb

Inside an ordinary light bulb, current heats a thin wire called a filament until it glows. Much of the energy becomes heat too.

A filament bulb works either way round. It still needs a suitable voltage and a complete circuit.

The lighthouse keeper’s bulb turns electrical energy into a welcoming glow for boats.
