Diode

A diode lets current pass easily in its forward direction and blocks it in reverse during normal use. Think of a one-way street for current.

Direction matters. The bar in its circuit symbol marks the cathode; a stripe often marks that end on the real part.

A diode guards the toy workshop’s circuit against a battery connected the wrong way round.
